Eagle
resident, Andrew Parker Woods, 35, died August 13 of complications
from an August 1st motorcycle accident. Andy is survived by his parents,
David and Pat Woods of Pittsford, New York; sisters Ellen McMinn (husband
Kyle) of Rochester, NY; Katie
Woods of Warwick, Rhode Island; Grandmother Katherine Woods of Groton,
Massachusetts; nephew Parker and niece Maggie; and best friend and love,
Kristen Herzog of Eagle, Colorado.
Andy grew up in Pittsford, New York, graduated from Pittsford Mendon
High School in1986, where he played varsity soccer and was voted most flirtatious in
his senior class. He graduated in 1990 from St. John Fisher College with
a B.A. degree in business.
Before moving to Colorado, Andy worked in the ski industry for both
Marker and Nordica. Andy arrived in the Vail Valley in the fall of
1994, his
Jeep filled with gear. Unlike the majority of Valley migrants who
return to
the East in the spring, Andy stayed and built a life. Over the course
of his ten years in the area, he became a “local,” transforming
himself into an accomplished sportsman, well known, widely loved
and admired.
Andy was an entrepreneur, most recently working in the Eagle office
for Slifer Smith and Frampton Realtors. He started a western-themed
event
business, Action Avents, in 1996, and worked as a wrangler and guide
at Lazy J Ranch
and as a teamster at the 4 Eagle Ranch. Active in the community,
Andy worked with disabled children through Cowboy Dreams. He was
a member
of the Eagle Rotary. Andy’s interests went far beyond
hunting, fishing, and skiing.
His additional interests included sailing,
scuba diving, reading, cooking, and riding horses and Harleys with friends
who will greatly miss his loving, joyful spirit
On August 23 2003, at 2 PM Andy's friends & family
gathered at the First
Presbyterian Church in Pittsford for a prayer service in
his memory.
It was, as we say, a "Colorado Day"…perfect weather.
Rev. Bruce Boak took as the theme a John Denver tune, "Poems, Prayers
and Promises". Matt Miller, Kristen and sisters Ellen and
Katie shared some memories. James Douthitt played a series of Denver
tunes
as the folks filed in and a rousing organ rendition of God Bless
America at the end. The following reception in the Church ended
a little after
4 PM. According to the sign-in book there were well over 150 attending
including some family friends who had never met Andy. Some of his
friends came from San Francisco, Maine, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Kristen and our family are very grateful to the Church people,
our friends who
handled the arrangements, and to all the folks who came to be with
us. The Church and Flowers can be seen here
