Aug 15, 2004 -Camp Gorham Memorial Fund Update -
Thanks to all who have contributed to both Memorial Funds in Andy's name. The Colorado fund intended for Andy and Kristen's extra expenses has been distributed and is closed.
The YMCA Camp Gorham Fund is still open and an exciting project is in process:
After discussion with several 'Y' folks and family and friends, it was decided to build a gazebo overlooking Dart Lake at the camp. Plans have been approved and work will commence soon. We expect most of it will be completed by September 11, 2004, in time for a brief dedication. Photos will be added here as work progresses.
In the project proposal, the Camp Director wrote:
"OBJECTIVE: Construct an 8-sided Adirondack Gazebo along the waterfront at YMCA Camp Gorham memorializing Andy Woods, his legacy, his involvement and years of service at camp and furthermore the impact camp had on Andy's life."
Later, he points out the need for face to face interaction; "…Great camps have areas built where kids can face each other and enjoy one another's company."
We have suggested calling this structure: Andy's Friendship Circle.
